Sophia Irenes Nieves, 62, of Newark, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Born on August 7, 1964, in Manhattan, New York, Sophia was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, and cherished member of her family. She was the devoted wife of David Nieves and the loving mother of Katheline Nieves.

Sophia was the daughter of Jose Luis Lucca and Sofia Cedeno. She was a proud Puerto Rican and a graduate of high school. For many years, Sophia was self-employed through S&K Gift Basket, where she worked creating and designing gift baskets.

Sophia will be remembered for the love she shared with her family, the memories she created with those closest to her, and the lasting impact she had on the lives of those who knew and loved her.

Following cremation, Sophia's cremated remains will be entrusted to her family.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
