Maria Cristina Cruz, 48, of Clifton, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026.
Family and friends are welcome to visit on Thursday, March 5th, from 3-8pm in Las Rosas Bannworth Funeral Home, 1055 E. Jersey Street, Elizabeth, NJ 07201. (ample parking in the rear).
Born on September 21, 1977, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, Maria was the beloved daughter of Juan Ramon Cruz and Nilda Rodriguez. She carried the warmth, strength, and vibrant spirit of her Puerto Rican roots throughout her life, sharing that love of family and culture with everyone she met.
Maria was a devoted and loving mother to Angelica Maria Cruz, Julian Diaz, Jose Vega, and Juan Quiles. Her children were the center of her world, and she dedicated her life to nurturing, guiding, and supporting them with unwavering love and pride. She was also a cherished grandmother to Nadia and Brandon, Jr., who brought immense joy and light to her life. Becoming a grandmother was one of her greatest blessings.
She was the loving sister of Juan Cruz Jr., Felicita Cruz, and Julissa Cruz and her husband Orlando Tielves. Maria was a dear and devoted aunt to Frances Yareliz Cruz, Benicio Tielves, Isabella Tielves, and Santiago Tielves, and a proud grand-aunt to Brandon, Jaziel, and Neseliz. Her bond with her family was deep and enduring, and she treasured every gathering, celebration, and quiet moment spent together.
Maria worked as a residential counselor with SERV Behavioral Health Systems in Paterson, New Jersey. In her role, she demonstrated compassion, patience, and dedication, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those she served. She approached her work with the same kindness and empathy that defined her personal life, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement.
Maria will be remembered for her generous heart, her radiant smile, and her unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Her memory will be forever cherished, and she will be deeply missed.
